DAVID ROMIJN Local wire sculptor, David Romijn, is a native Edmontonian whose creativity emerged very early in life. As a child he was never satisfied with the “ordinary”, always finding ways to improve his toys, making them “cooler” and more exciting with string, boxes, tape, or whatever material he could get his hands on. Sculpting was one of his first loves and his first medium was “Silly Putty”. He’s come a long way since then. A self-taught artist, David works in a variety of mediums. In addition to creating amazing three-dimensional figures out of wire, he enjoys painting and drawing and also dabbles in pottery. For painting he prefers acrylic on canvas and chooses bright colours for his works. Some of his drawings have been translated into body art (tattoos). David’s wire sculptures range from simple flower designs to very detailed dragons and eagles, and include functional art such as candleholders that incorporate brightly coloured glass for extra sparkle. Simplicity is important to David and many of his designs utilize one continuous piece of wire, a technique that is becoming his trademark. |
