One of the most frequently asked questions about Shmilar Kwong is, “Where did the name come from?” It’s really very simple.

Donna Shmilar met Stan Kwong while growing up Edmonton. Stan was “the” budding young artist at King Edward Junior High School. Donna was a young girl with a dream of becoming a nurse. They eventually married, raised a family, and pursued their chosen careers. After 27 years of nursing Donna felt a need for change, a need for a slower paced way of life, a need to find some balance. Stan’s dream of opening an on-line store became a shared dream, with Donna contributing organizational skills and a love of shopping and home decorating. We named the on-line shop Shmilar Kwong to honour our families and our Ukrainian/Chinese backgrounds.
